Joseph Bruni

Joe Bruni is the division chief of safety and training for the St. Petersburg, Fl. Fire & Rescue Department. The department protects 250,000 people in a 63-square mile area of Pinellas County Florida. The department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, and operates out of twelve fire stations with services that include fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, advanced life support emergency medical response, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and water rescue\dive operations. He is a 36-year veteran of the fire service beginning his career with the Robinson Township #1 Fire Department in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pa. In the State of Florida he has also worked for St. Petersburg Beach Fire Department and the City of St. Petersburg Fire &Rescue Department. He has worked through the ranks of firefighter, driver\engineer, lieutenant, captain, and division chief.

 

His education includes an associate degree in Fire Science Administration from St. Petersburg College, a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Studies with a concentration in Public Leadership from Eckerd College, and a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Public Administration from Troy State University.  He is a Florida State certified Fire Officer I, Florida certified Fire Instructor III, and Florida certified Emergency Medical Technician. He has performed as a Field Training Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, and a member of the St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue Technical Rescue Team. He is also a member of the Pinellas County Training Officers Group. He is an adjunct instructor for St. Petersburg College Fire Academy, St. Petersburg College Fire Science Program, and Pinellas Technical Education Center. He is also a member of the St. Petersburg College Fire Training Center Advisory Committee.

 

As an instructor, he teaches various fire science classes for St. Petersburg College, including building construction for the fire service. He is also a lead instructor for the St. Petersburg College Fire Academy, and teaches continuing education classes through Pinellas Technical Education Center.
